GENERALS PREP FOR MVCC SHOWDOWN WITH ROAD WIN AT HUDSON VALLEY

TROY — The Herkimer Generals survived back-and-forth action to pull away from Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday afternoon by the score of 76-69.

 

After leading 61-51 with 7:02 left, Herkimer (13-5) squandered a ten point lead, and resuscitated life into the McDonough Sports Complex with just over four minutes left. 

 

The Generals put their foot on the gas, scoring 15 points in the final 3:31 to pull away from HVCC.

 

Leading the way for Herkimer was freshman point guard Dante Griffin (Utica) with 18 points, and nine rebounds. He also went 4-of-8 from three-point range. 

 

Freshman guard Shykell Brown (Rochester) added 17 points (5-of-10 FG), five rebounds and four assists.

 

Sophomore forward Ty Desinor (Brooklyn) had 12 points (4-of-5 FG), and freshman guard Jayden Stephens (Yonkers) added 11.

 

As a team, Herkimer shot 36% from the field, 41% from the field, and 70% from the free throw line.

 

Next up for the Generals is a showdown with No. 6 ranked Mohawk Valley on Wednesday night at the Herkimer Varsity Gym. The Hawks defeated the Generals by a score of 66-64 in November in Utica. The rematch is set for 7:00 PM.
