MEN'S BASKETBALL GOES 1-1 ON ROAD TRIP
HUDSON — After a loss to Division II Genesee Community College on Tuesday, the Generals bounced back with a two point win at Columbia Greene Community College on Thursday afternoon.
Against Genesee, Herkimer held onto a 35-25 lead before Genesee methodically clawed back, tying the game with 10:23 left.
It was a downhill battle for Herkimer as they trailed the rest of the way, and lost to their second Div. ll opponent in three days by the score of 67-63.
Herkimer was led in scoring by sophomore center Solomon Silas (Nigeria) with 24 points, and added 11 rebounds for good measure.
At Columbia-Greene, the Generals were presented with the task of preventing a barrage of three-pointers.
Columbia-Greene hit 11 three-pointers, but the Generals stayed strong and defeated them 81-79.
Herkimer (10-5) trailed 18:37 of the 20 minutes in the second half, but pulled away with the win when freshman guard Dante Griffin (Utica) hit two game-winning free throws with 4.7 seconds left.
Freshman guard Keyshawn Miller from Yonkers went bonkers with 15 first half points, and finished with a team-leading 17. Freshman guard Shykell Brown (Rochester) added 15, and Solomon Silas had 10-of-his-12 points in the second half.
The Generals are back in action Monday, January 20th at home vs. North Country at 1 p.m.
