HERKIMER MEN'S BASKETBALL RUNS AWAY FROM CAYUGA

HERKIMER — Freshman guard Shykell Brown (Rochester) was a human-microwave for the Generals in a 95-70 win over Cayuga Community College on Thursday night.

19-of-his-31 points came in the second half, and added a season-high seven three-pointers for Herkimer (8-3).

Herkimer out-scored the Spartans 54-38 in the second half to pull out their first win in 2020.

"I was feeling good in warmups," said Brown. "My teammates did a good job finding me & setting me for some easy shots throughout the game."

Because of winter break, it was the Generals' first game in over a month. Their last game was a  14 point loss in December to Onondaga Community College.

I feel like we're all locked in now," said freshman guard Keyshawn Miller. "Everybody here wants to be the best team."

Brown led both sides with 31 points. Miller (Yonkers) added 17 points, and sophomore forward Tyres Desinor (Brooklyn) followed with 12.

Cayuga was led by sophomore guard Stanley Beato with 16 points.

Herkimer's next games are home on Jan. 11th & 12th as part of The Philly Classic. The Generals play NJCAA Division II foes Monroe Community College and Niagara County Community Colleges respectively.

"Last year we approached the weekend as if it were another two games," said sophomore co-captain Rashad Alfahad. "Last years team knew that the only two things that mattered were the guys in our locker room, and the things that we could control. If we approach it with the same mindset this year, we'll be successful in the Philly Classic."
