MEN'S BASKETBALL GOES 1-1 ON THE ROAD TO FINISH FIRST SEMESTER

ALBANY & ONONDAGA — The Herkimer Men's Basketball team won 1-of-2 games last Thursday (12/04) & Saturday (12/06) to bring their record to 7-3 on the season.

On Thursday night at Russell Sage College, they defeated SUNY Adirondack 82-41.

The team flourished in just about every major aspect in the game: Besides outscoring Adirondack, they out-rebounded, had more assists, and forced more turnovers than the Timberwolves.

Dante Griffin & Jaylen Warmack (both fr. guards from Utica-Notre Dame) led both teams in scoring with 14 points. 

Keyshawn Miller (Yonkers) added 13 points, and Jayden Stephens (Yonkers) came off the bench scoring 12. 

It was only Stephens' second game coming off of the bench, and he accepted his role for the betterment of the team. "I felt good," he said. "I feel like I gave the team energy coming off of the bench, and we got the win."

The second game didn't go as hoped for the Generals losing 91-77 at Onondaga Community College on Saturday afternoon. 

They trailed throughout the entire first half, losing 51-38 at halftime. 

Herkimer came out of halftime looking like a different team, going on a 16-0 run in the first 5:52 of the second half, giving themselves their first lead of the game.

Once Onondaga called a timeout following the Generals run, everything shifted in their favor. The Lazers answered with an 11-0 run of their own and never looked back, outscoring Herkimer 40-22 in the final 9:44 of the second half.

Fr. guard Shykell Brown (Rochester) led both teams with a season-high 27 points on 17 shots. Soph. forward Rashad Alfahad also had a season-high on points; scoring on 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.

Herkimer has a month-long break until their next game due to the winter break. Their next game is at home, Tuesday, January 7th at 4 p.m. vs. Cayuga Community College.
