HERKIMER WINS AT BUZZER IN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT GAME

Loch Sheldrake, NY - Solomon Silas (Lagos, Nigeria) hit a 15 foot baseline jump shot at the buzzer to complete a stirring Herkimer comeback in the last two minutes and give the Generals a 78-76 win over Minnesota West Community College in the consolation bracket of the 2018 NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.

After leading 60-50 with 8 minutes left, the Generals found themselves down 73-65 with 1:54 remaining. The Generals turned up the defense and forced 3 Minnesota West turnovers in the last 1:30. With the score tied at 76, Herkimer forced a Minnesota West backcourt violation with 1.9 seconds left. The resulting inbound play in front of the Generals bench got the ball to Silas on the baseline and his turnaround jumper went through the net as the buzzer sounded. Silas scored 21 points and snagged 11 rebounds on the day to lead the Generals.

Teshaun Beckles (Brooklyn, NY) scored 13 points on the day with several big plays down the stretch. Derrick Felder (Yonkers, NY) added 12 assists, 10 rebounds and 6 steals to go along with his 7 points in playing all 40 minutes.

The win gives Herkimer a record of 26-5 on the season and puts them in the 2:00 fourth place game on Saturday afternoon against the winner of North Lake (TX) and Massasoit (MA).
