MEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS PHILLY TOURNAMENT WITH EPIC WIN

Herkimer, NY— In game 1 of the Generals annual Philly Tournament, Herkimer hosted NJCAA Division I ASA College Avengers from Brooklyn, NY.  This game proved to be one of the most memorable to date, going into two overtimes, and ending with ASA having only three players left on the court.

Throughout most of the game Herkimer trailed ASA by a few points.  Herkimer gained its first lead with less than ten minutes left in the game but it bounced back and forth in the last two minutes as the Generals and Avengers traded three point shots.  A key moment which shifted momentum this game was when sophomore forward #1 Justin Harley (Central Islip, NY) made two key free throws with 23.1 seconds left in the first overtime. These free throws brought the score to one possession at 90-92.   The Generals found themselves back in it.  #2 Matt Dallas (Troy, NY) hit another momentum swinger with just 10.7 left in the first overtime to bring Herkimer down by just one at 96-95.  One made foul shot brought ASA up two 97-95 with less than ten seconds left.

Herkimer point guard Isiah Dobere (Albany, NY) got the ball to Harley.  Harley crossed his defender and got the ball to #21 Felix Riascos (Poughkeepsie, NY) who was fouled on his attempt to the hoop with 1.3 seconds left on the clock.  With Herkimer in the double bonus Riascos had two free throws coming his way.  His first dramatically rolled in bringing the score to 97-96.  The second swished in and the game continued to a second overtime.

The hit on Riascos fouled out the third ASA Player leaving them with only three left on the court.  Herkimer built a comfortable 5 point lead at the end and finished 116-111.  Herkimer will play Clinton Community College Saturday Feb, 4th at 2 p.m. after the women's game at noon.
