GENERALS HOLD THEIR GROUND AT HOME

Herkimer, NY -- The Herkimer Generals Men's Basketball team hosted the Columbia-Greene Twins last night (1/19).  This game quickly became one of the most intense to date for the Generals.  The score was close throughout as the Generals remained within arms reach of the lead for the entire first half.  With the halftime score, Twins up five: 38-33, the Generals had to come back strong if they were going to stay in it.  Herkimer returned from the half with great intent and intensity as they fought their way to a 64-62  lead with just under ten minutes left in regulation.  The rest of regulation consisted of at least nine lead changes.  Herkimer was able to tie it up 79-79 with 18 seconds left and  their defense forced the Twins into an off balance shot which Herkimer's #1 Justin Harley (Central Islip, NY) pulled off the boards to send the game into overtime.

Overtime consisted of at least seven lead changes and included Herkimer earning its largest lead 90-87 with 18.2 left in overtime.  The Twins were able to sink a bucket with 8.8 second left bringing the lead to just one.  On the in-bounds play the Twins fouled to stop the clock and unfortunately Herkimer's missed free-throw attempt gave the Twins possession as they grabbed the rebound and charged down the court with a few seconds to spare.  In a last stitch effort Columbia-Greene launched a 30 foot jump shot which luckily just missed the hoop.  In a nail-biter finish the Herkimer Generals defeated the Columbia-Greene Twins 90-89 in overtime.

The Generals will next host Schenectady Community College Saturday (1/21) at 1PM in the Varsity Gym.
