Herkimer remains undefeated at home, defeat Twins 76-49

(Anquan McLean Jr. takes an Owens pass and dunks it in the second half, finishing the game with 10 points).

(Patrick Dorrian led Herkimer in points on Saturday, finishing with 15 against the Twins).

HERKIMER, NY – The #7 Herkimer Generals men's basketball team hosted their fifth consecutive game in the varsity gym on Saturday (2/13), this time against Columbia-Greene with the same results, winning 76-49 to remain undefeated at home on the season.

Herkimer (22-3, 14-0) led in the entire game, jumping out to an early 8-0 lead with baskets from Justin Harley (Central Islip, NY) Tyquan Scott (Long Beach, NY) and Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY). Each finished the game in double figures, led by 15 from Dorrian, 13 from Scott and 10 from Harley.

Columbia-Greene managed to keep the deficit within 10 points until Herkimer ended the half on an 11-to-5 run in the final six minutes of the first half to lead 33-18. The turning point came after McLean Jr. went on a mini 5-0 which included a three-point field goal, then Tru Garland (Bronx, NY) also sank a shot from deep and drew a charge with less than less a minute to play. Garland finished the game with nine points, but also helped the Generals cause two shot clock violations in the first 20 minutes of play.

In the second half, the game quickly got away from the Twins, finding themselves down 20 after Matthew Dallas (Hudson, NY) hit his only three-point field of the game on an assist from Daniel Owens (Albany, NY). It caused Columbia-Greene to call a timeout, but it didn't help, eventually falling down by 30 points with 8:12 left in regulation after Owens grabbed an offensive rebound which turned into a basket.

It remained at 30 points after Jacob Paulino (Latham, NY) hit a free throw in the final seconds of the game until the Twins hit their final three of the game before Herkimer ran out the clock with their last possession.

Up next for Herkimer is Tompkins-Cortland Community College. The Generals will travel to play the Panthers on Tuesday (2/16). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tompkins-Cortland in 14-9 overall and 6-2 in their last eight games.
