McLean Jr. and Scott lead team to 12th conference win

(Anquan McLean Jr. led the Generals with 22 points on Tuesday against the Raiders).

(Scott had a solid game Tuesday as well, chipping in 21 points for the team's 11th consecutive win).

HERKIMER, NY – Needing another superb second half to defeat Fulton-Montgomery, this time at home on Tuesday (2/9), the #7 Herkimer Generals men's basketball team outscored the Raiders 50-to-28 in the second half to win 79-62, remaining undefeated against the Mountain Valley Conference with a 12-0 record.

Herkimer (20-3, 12-0) struggled at the line in the first half, going 9-for-17 (.53 percent) in the first 20 minutes. It allowed the Raiders to stay in the game and lead for most of the half, trading leads three times until a technical foul in the final 10 seconds allowed Fulton-Montgomery to build a five point lead (34-29) into intermission.

The first few minutes of the second half had a similar feeling until a field goal by Anquan Mclean Jr. (Albany, NY) and baseline dunk by Tyquan Scott (Long Beach, NY) awoke the Generals, capturing the lead back with 16 minutes left in regulation after another McLean Jr. field goal. McLean Jr. had a game-high 22, while Scott turned in 21.

Both teams battled a one possession game until Matt Dallas (Hudson, NY) sank a three with 10:21 left to give Herkimer a five points (46-41) lead. From there, sophomore Daniel Owens (Albany, NY) created his own 6-0 run to push it to nine (54-45), then buckets by McLean Jr. and Scott completed a 14-1 run to give Herkimer a commanding 62-47 lead.

McLean Jr. and Scott finished the game with four dunks down the stretch, helping the Generals to a 17-point victory.

Up next for Herkimer is another conference opponent on Wednesday (2/10). They'll ride their current 11-game win streak into the varsity gym at Herkimer College against SUNY Adirondack. The Timberwolves are 7-16 overall and 2-6 in their last eight. Tipoff in this conference matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m.
