#9 Generals snap #6 Tribunes win streak at home, win 63-60

(Matthew Dallas scores two of his seven points on this field goal in the paint Saturday against Monroe).

(Timothy McKenzie scores two of his four points in the game on this drive in the second half against Monroe).

HERKIMER, NY – Riding into Saturday's (2/6) home game on a nine-game win streak, the #9 Herkimer Generals men's basketball team needed a solid overall effort from their entire squad to reach 10 consecutive, defeating #6 DII Monroe 63-60 in regulation which snapped the Tribunes eight-game win streak.

Herkimer (19-3, 11-0) trailed for most of the game, needing a couple runs to keep them in it. The first came in the first half after Shomari Redd (Westbury, NY), Anquan McLean Jr. (Albany, NY) and Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY) brought life to the crowd, compiling an 8-0 run which in return gave the Generals a 25-24 lead with 4:24 left in the first half. Both Redd and Dorrian had three-point makes, Redd's came via an 'and one' and Dorrian's came from a shot, but the momentum didn't last long as the Tribunes put together a run themselves to push the lead to nine (34-25) with 3:24 left. Redd had three points, Dorrian had a game-high 17 and McLean Jr. had 11.

Big buckets from Tyquan Scott (Long Beach, NY) and Matthew Dallas (Hudson, NY) brought the Monroe lead to 34-30 at intermission, watching Dallas sink his only three-point field goal of the game with 10.1 left which helped Herkimer end the half on a 5-0 run.

In the second half, Monroe took a commanding 10-point lead (43-33) within the first five minutes of play until Herkimer managed their second run of the contest after Daniel Owens (Albany, NY) scored seven points on a 9-0 run in the span of two minutes to give Herkimer a lead which would not be relinquished (49-48) with 8:07 left in regulation. Owens finished the game with 12 points.

Monroe did manage to tie the game at 52 apiece with 5:17 left, but a Dorrian three, two foul shots, steal and layup in the span of 29 seconds put Herkimer up by five points (62-57) and that's all the team needed to remain undefeated at home this season.

Herkimer will play their third of five consecutive home games on Tuesday (2/9) when they host Fulton-Montgomery in the varsity gym at 6 p.m. The Raiders are only 7-10 overall, but Herkimer only beat them by three points (63-60) this past week in Raider country. Herkimer will also be bringing their 11-0 conference record into the matchup.
