#7 Men’s Basketball remains undefeated at home, defeat Hawks 67-57

(Tru Garland scored 14 of his 16 points in the final 10 minutes of regulation on Wednesday).

HERKIMER, NY – Aided by 14 second half points from Tru Garland (Bronx, NY), totaling a season-high 16 points, the #7 Herkimer Generals men's basketball team defeated Mohawk Valley at home 67-57 on Wednesday (1/27).

Herkimer (15-3, 9-0) built a 19 point lead after a Tyquan Scott (Long Beach, NY) dunk with 14:41 left in regulation, overcoming five lead changes and two ties within the first 20 minutes of play. The momentum the team collected in the final six minutes of the first half and five minutes of the second half quickly went away though after the Hawks went on a 16-to-4 run in the span of four minutes, putting the game back into single digits (49-42) with over 10 minutes left.

Keeping the Hawks at bay throughout the rest of the contest was Garland, scoring 14 of the team's final 20 points to keep the Generals undefeated against the conference with a 9-0 record. The only other players to score in the final 10 minutes of regulation were Todd Spottswood (Schenectady, NY), Anquan McLean Jr. (Albany, NY), Timothy McKenzie (Central Islip, NY) and Shomari Redd (Westbury, NY). Spotts wood had one, finishing with three; McLean Jr. had two, finishing with four; McKenzie had one, finishing with seven; and Redd had two, finishing with six.

The Generals will look to keep their current six-game win streak alive this Saturday (1/30) went they travel to play Clinton Community College at 3 p.m. The Cougar are 4-15 overall and losers of their last 12 games.
