UTICA, NY – Getting 13 second half points from freshman Anquan McLean Jr. on Wednesday (11/11) at Mohawk Valley Community College, the #5 Herkimer Generals men's basketball team kept their unblemished record intact with a 75-72 win in regulation over the Hawks.

Herkimer (4-0, 2-0) battled Mohawk Valley to the tune of six lead changes in the second half, needing Anquan McLean Jr. (Albany, NY) to come through on both the offensive and defensive ends to capture the team's fourth win of the season. McLean Jr. took a Pat Dorrian (Kingston, NY) pass from the baseline with 1:05 left in the game and scored despite getting fouled, putting him at the foul line with a 73-72 lead after the Hawks just took the lead with 1:17 left on the clock. McLean Jr. sank the free throw to make it 74-72, then came up big on the defensive end, drawing the charge on Mohawk Valley which gave Herkimer the ball back with 57 seconds left. Sophomore Daniel Owens (Albany, NY) then sank 1-of-2 foul shots (75-72) and helped stop the Hawks on their final offensive possession, not allowing a shot to even hit the rim.

McLean Jr. led Herkimer with 15 points, getting eight of those points from begin active on the offensive glass. The forward had four offensive rebound in the second half which gave the Generals a 47-44, 49-44, 64-57 and 68-59 lead over the Hawks.

Behind McLean Jr. was Owens and Dorrian with 13 and 12 points respectively. Together, McLean Jr., Owens and Dorrian combined to score Herkimer's final 16 points in the final eight minutes of regulation. Dorrian hit three's twice to give his team a 62-57 and 71-68 lead, while Owens lone layup before his attempts from the charity stripe gave Herkimer a 66-59 lead with less than five minutes left.

Herkimer will head back home on Saturday (11/14) to face Hudson Valley Community College. The Vikings are 2-0 on the season. Game time for Saturday in the varsity gym is 3 p.m.
