Generals bounce back with win over Colonials at nationals

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY – Playing a much more complete game Friday (3/13) at Paul Gerry Fieldhouse in an NJCAA DIII Consolation game, the Herkimer Generals men's basketball team got back on track against the Community College of Philadelphia, defeating the Colonials 78-60 in regulation.

Herkimer (30-4, 17-1) got off to another hot start, jumping out to a 9-0 lead on baskets by Carson Murphy (Mohawk, NY), Ken Woodard (Bronx, NY) and Jamell Johnson (Rochester, NY) in the first three minutes. Johnson's was a three pointer, assisted by Jallah Tarver (Schenectady, NY) which caused the Colonials to call a timeout. Murphy finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocks; Woodard finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists; Johnson finished with 16 points and three rebounds.

The Generals then built the lead to 14 (23-9) with 9:06 left in the first half, taking their foot off the gas a bit, going basket-for-basket with Philadelphia into intermission, leading 30-28.

In the second half, the Generals were led by 14 second half points from Dantre Langhorne (Greenport, NY) who finished with a game-high 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists. It helped Herkimer jump the lead to 20 points throughout the second half, seeing the Colonials come as close as 15 points of a tie with less than five minutes left, but Langhorne  and teammate Julio Galay (Bronx, NY) came alive with buckets in three consecutive possessions to make it 74-54 with 2:18 left.

A Brandon Thomson (Long Island, NY) three then made it 77-54, eventually winning by 18 (78-60) to advance to the fourth place game on Saturday (3/14) against either the Sandhills Flyers. Tipoff for that game is 2 p.m.
