Men’s basketball back at 11 consecutive, defeat Delhi at home

(Herkimer's Julio Galay scored 12 points Saturday, his seventh game in double figures this season).

HERKIMER, NY – With five players scoring in double figures Saturday (2/7) afternoon in the varsity gym, the Herkimer Generals men's basketball team had more than enough offense to split games with Mountain Valley Conference rival SUNY Delhi this season, defeating the Broncos 84-69 for their 11th consecutive win.

Herkimer (22-2, 13-1) was only able to muster up 45 points against the Broncos when they played early in January, but it was a rare memory with the team jumping out to an early 15-4 lead within the game's opening minutes.

Solid shooting from the floor for Delhi kept them in the game throughout, but the Generals proved to be too well-rounded. With 17 minutes left in regulation, Herkimer's Ken Woodard (Bronx, NY) received his fourth foul, keeping the sophomore forward on the bench until late. It didn't matter as Herkimer kept the lead there with contributions coming from Jallah Tarver (Schenectady, NY), Julio Galay (Bronx, NY), Jamell Johnson (Rochester, NY) and Carson Murphy (Mohawk, NY). Each scored in double figures Saturday with Johnson and Tarver both scoring 17 and Galay and Murphy scoring 12.

The previously mentioned Woodard became the fifth General to score in double figures after connecting with Daniel Owens (Albany, NY) for a dunk with just over five minutes left in regulation. Woodard finished with 11.

The Generals next game is against SUNY Adirondack on Wednesday (2/11). The Timberwolves are 1-4 in their last five, but will look to stop Herkimer for their best winning streak this season with a scheduled 7 p.m. start Wednesday.
