Philly Classic concludes with win over Redemption
(Pat Dorrian finished Sunday's game with 10 points, hitting two shots from deep against Redemption).
HERKIMER, NY – Playing their first back-to-back game of the season which concluded the Philly Classic, the Herkimer Generals men's basketball team handled Redemption Christian Academy Sunday (11/2) afternoon in the varsity gym, defeating them 73-52.
Herkimer (1-1) started off the game slow, but a Kainan McCarthy (Mohawk, NY) charge, Julio Galay (Bronx, NY) layup and field goal and Pat Dorrian (Kingston, NY) three-point field goal gave the Generals a 10-point lead (35-22) with a little over four minutes left in the first half. Both Galay and Dorrian scored six points in the half, the most of any other General, finishing with six and 10 points respectively.
In the second half, Ken Woodard (Bronx, NY) made his presence felt in the post, scoring Herkimer's first six points, accumulating two offensive rebounds and a block in the process. He finished the game with a team-high 11. The Generals eventually ballooned the lead from 16-to-23 after three-point field goals by Jallah Tarver (Schenectady, NY) and Jamell Johnson (Rochester, NY). Tarver finished with three and Johnson finished with 10, hitting both three's on consecutive possessions.
The final General to score in double digits Sunday was Carson Murphy (Mohawk, NY). The guard finished with 10 points, joining 10 other players to score in the contest.
Herkimer's next game is Saturday, November 8th which starts a streak of four consecutive away games, three against conference opponents. The team travels to Jefferson Community College to take on the Cannoneers at 3 p.m.
