Generals lose in overtime to conference opponent

HERKIMER, NY – The last five days haven't treated the Herkimer Generals Men's Basketball team well, having lost their last two games by a combined four points, giving them their first losing streak late in regular season play.

Herkimer 18-6 (10-2) had a two-point lead going into the half thanks to a last second bucket by Jonathan Feiler (St. James, NY), on an assist from teammate Wendall Williams. It capped a first half where Feiler was honored as the first player to score 1,000 points under current Head Coach Matt Lee.

In the second half, the Raiders and Generals traded leads six times. Scoring the final points in regulation was Enson Garcia (Bronx, NY), tieing the game at 86 each, needing overtime to find a winner.

In overtime, Herkimer missed a combined seven free throws and saw the Raiders hit two three-point field goals in the final three minutes. However, they still had a chance as time expired to tie the game, but Garcia was unable to connect on a three-point field goal from the right side of the floor.

After their longest win streak of the season (eight games), the Generals have now lost two consecutive games, added to that, to a conference opponent. The team is still 10-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference, but they'll be traveling to SUNY Delhi on Saturday to take on the Broncos at 3 p.m. The Broncos are the only other team in the conference to give Herkimer a loss.

(Wendall Williams finds Jonathan Feiler as the first half expires to give the Generals a 39-37 lead at half).
