Bio
Lane Potter, '10, took over as the head coach of the Herkimer baseball program in July 2022. The 2026 season marks his fourth season as the Herkimer Baseball Head Coach. He was an assistant coach for the Generals under former head coach Jason Rathbun for six seasons prior to taking over.
Potter has led the Generals to the World Series in each of his first two seasons as head coach, including a Region III Championship in 2024. The Generals are 102-25 (.803) under Potter's leadership.
As a player for the Generals, Potter reached the Regional Championship Game in each of his three seasons at Herkimer. He hit .387 and helped the 2010 team to a third-place finish. He received a scholarship to Brescia University where he was a two-year captain.
Potter began his coaching career at SUNY Oneonta in 2014. Over the next three seasons, Potter served as infield coach and hitting coach for the Red Dragons in the SUNYAC conference. During the summer of 2014 and 2015, Potter was an assistant coach for the Oneonta Outlaws of the NYCBL. During his time with the Outlaws, Oneonta won the Eastern Division title in both seasons.
During Potter’s coaching career, he has coached ten players that have gone on to the professional ranks. Those include Ramon Osuna, Taylor Hicks, Brandon Agar, Mike Bunal, Steve Ascher, Trevor Putzig, Adam Scott, Ethan Evanko, Griffin Barnes, Patrick Dorrian, Dale Stanavich, Troy Butler and Greg Farone.
Potter holds an Associate’s degree from Herkimer in Liberal Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brescia University. He resides in Oneonta, NY.
