Herkimer Scores 43 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep vs. SUNY Broome

The Herkimer Generals exploded offensively in Tuesday's doubleheader against SUNY Broome, piling up 43 total runs across two games en route to a dominant sweep. Marvin Hill led the way, blasting three home runs and driving in 10 RBI on the day.

Game 1: Herkimer 20, SUNY Broome 3

The Generals wasted no time setting the tone in Game 1, putting up nine runs in the second inning alone. Obiel Sanchez and Jaden Madrid got things going with RBI singles before Shiryu Sato launched a three-run homer. Hill followed with a solo shot, and Mike Schleider capped the frame with another run-scoring single.

Herkimer added five more in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Hugo Kohnhorst and a two-run double by Zowen Collins. SUNY Broome showed some life in the top of the fourth with a two-run homer from Ragonese, but the Generals answered right back with six more runs in the bottom half. Hill delivered the knockout blow with a grand slam, followed by a solo homer from Kohnhorst and an RBI double from Jacob Fermin.

Hill finished Game 1 with two home runs and five RBI, while Kohnhorst and Schleider chipped in three and two hits, respectively. Starting pitcher David Denten picked up the win, allowing just three runs (two earned) over five innings with five strikeouts.

Game 2: Herkimer 23, SUNY Broome 0

If Game 1 was a blowout, Game 2 was an all-out rout.

After scoring three in the first and six more in the second—including home runs from Jacob Severson and Dylan Wolfson— the Generals blew the game wide open with a 12-run fourth inning. The outburst included a two-run double from Sato, a two-run homer from Hill, a solo shot from Chase Brennan, and a grand slam off the bat of Rect Shirakata. Casey Burcroff added a sac fly to cap the massive inning.

Joe Citrangola earned the win on the mound, throwing three no-hit innings and striking out five. Relievers Jacob Rentz and Chase Regan kept SUNY Broome off the board the rest of the way.

Herkimer finished Game 2 with 20 hits. Shirakata led the team with four RBI, while Severson, Alcantara, Sanchez, Hill, and Kohnhorst all recorded multi-hit games. The Generals also flashed the leather, turning a double play and keeping SUNY Broome off balance all afternoon.

With the sweep, Herkimer continues to flex its offensive firepower and pitching depth as the season hits full stride. The team returns home to play Jefferson CC on Thursday. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
