Generals Sweep Cayuga with Explosive Offense, Dominant Pitching

Herkimer Baseball rolled through Cayuga Community College on Friday, sweeping the doubleheader with wins of 11-1 and 17-0 to push their record to 13-4 on the season.

Game 1: Herkimer 11, Cayuga 1

In Game 1, the Generals used timely hitting and a big fourth inning to pull away. Jaden Madrid delivered a two-run single and Kyle Kristel added an RBI groundout to open the scoring in the second. The fourth inning proved decisive, as Herkimer plated five runs on just two hits—highlighted by Marvin Hill's bases-loaded walk, a sac fly from Hugo Kohnhorst, and a three-run blast from Zowen Collins.

Kohnhorst added a solo homer in the sixth to cap the scoring. On the mound, Brendan Rusnack was in full control, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on four hits with nine strikeouts. He improved to 3-0 on the season.

Madrid and Jacob Severson paced the offense with two hits apiece, while Collins led all players with three RBIs. Herkimer also swiped three bases and turned a double play defensively.

Game 2: Herkimer 17, Cayuga 0

Game 2 was all Herkimer from the start. The Generals jumped out with a four-run first, then erupted for six runs in the third and seven more in the fourth. Collins once again came through in the clutch with a three-run double, while Madrid, Severson, Hill, and Sanchez each chipped in RBIs during the offensive outburst.

Kohnhorst stayed hot with a 2-for-2 game, and Madrid led the way with three RBIs. Herkimer racked up 12 hits, including multi-hit games from Madrid, Hill, Collins, and Kohnhorst. The team also showed discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks and swiping five bases.

Evan Staroba was nearly untouchable, throwing five shutout innings with nine strikeouts and just one hit allowed to earn the win.

The Generals are back in action Sunday as they travel to face Jefferson Community College in another doubleheader that begins at 1:00 PM.
