The Herkimer Generals Baseball team kicked off their conference slate in dominant fashion, sweeping SUNY Adirondack in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The victories improved Herkimer's record to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Game One: Offensive Explosion Powers Generals to 25-13 Win
The opener was a high-scoring affair, with the Generals using a 16-run sixth inning to overwhelm the Timberwolves. Herkimer trailed 13-9 after four innings but erupted late to secure a lopsided victory.
Shiryu Sato led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Jacob Severson and Thomas Lemonis each drove in four runs, while Marvin Hill added three RBIs and two triples. Herkimer's patience at the plate also paid off, drawing 16 walks.
On the mound, Chase Regan (1-0) earned the win in relief, throwing 2.1 innings while allowing just one unearned run. The Generals' pitching staff settled in after a rocky start, limiting Adirondack to no runs over the final two innings.
Game Two: Staroba Dominates in 5-1 Victory
The nightcap saw a strong pitching performance from sophomore Evan Staroba, who went the distance in a seven-inning complete game. He allowed just two hits and one run while striking out a career-best 14 batters.
Offensively, Herkimer broke through with a four-run fifth inning, sparked by an RBI triple from sophomore Zowen Collins. Collins and sophomores Obiel Sanchez, and Hugo Kohnhorst each drove in a run, while freshman Marvin Hill swiped two bases.
The Generals played a clean defensive game in the second matchup, committing no errors while capitalizing on five Adirondack miscues.
