The Herkimer Generals Baseball Team delivered a commanding performance in its second doubleheader of the season, sweeping Holyoke Community College with a 12-2 five-inning game in Game 1 and a 4-1 victory in Game 2. The Generals improved to 3-1 on the season with the sweep.
Game 1: Herkimer's Offense Explodes in Five-Inning Shutout
Herkimer wasted no time asserting control, scoring nine runs in the first inning en route to a dominant 12-0 win. The Generals tallied 12 hits while keeping Holyoke off the scoreboard. Shiryu Sato led the offensive charge, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Dylan Wolfson added a 2-for-2 effort with four RBI, while Michael Schleider and Marvin Hill also drove in runs to extend the lead.
On the mound, Caleb Martinek (1-0) was nearly untouchable, tossing four shutout innings while striking out four and allowing just two hits. Chase Regan closed out the game with a scoreless fifth inning, sealing Herkimer's first shutout of the season.
Game 2: Herkimer Completes the Sweep with Pitching Gem
In the second game, Herkimer relied on dominant pitching and timely hitting to secure a 4-1 win and sweep the doubleheader. Joey Citrangola (1-0) was stellar in his season debut, allowing just one run over six innings while striking out seven. Justin Peralta entered in the seventh and struck out two to earn the save.
Hugo Kohnhorst powered the offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Henry Tolentino and Michael Alcantara also added extra-base hits, helping the Generals build an early lead that they never relinquished.
Looking Ahead
With a strong start to the season, Herkimer will continue its Florida trip looking to build on its momentum. The Generals have a day off before playing Waubonsee CC and Region III foe Genesee CC in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
