Herkimer sweeps 4 game series from SUNY Adirondack

Glens Falls, NY and Little Falls, NY - It was a great weekend for the Herkimer Generals as they swept a 4 game series from the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves. Herkimer took 2 from SUNY ACC on Saturday in Glens Falls by scores of 15-1 and 4-3 and followed that up with wins of 18-6 and 15-2 on Sunday at Vets Park in Little Falls. The wins lifts the Generals record to 16-2 on the year and 8-0 in the Mountain Valley Conference.

The Generals got the weekend off to a huge start by scoring 8 runs to the first inning of Saturday's game at East Field and added 7 more in the 5th to cruise to the 15-1 5 inning win. Anthony Raimo Jr (Altamont,NY) went 2-3 with a double, triple, and 4 RBI's. Yuzuki Okamura (Shiga, Japan) went 2-2 with a triple while Kyle Caccamise (Hopewell, Junction, NY) and Sal Carricato (Farmingville, NY) also added 2 RBI's apiece. Trey Princiotto (Horseheads,NY) went all 5 innings on the mound for Herkimer, striking out 7 while only allowing 5 hits and 1 unearned run.

Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY) was the big story in the nightcap, throwing 6 shutout innings while only allowing 4 hits and striking out 9. The Generals took a 4-0 lead into the 7th before SUNY ACC rallied for 3 runs before Ethan Patch, from nearby Whitehall, NY, struck out the side to stop the rally. Caccamise and Okamura once again led the Generals offense, each getting 2 hits while Matthew Tobin (Newport, NY) hit a solo home run.

The series shifted to Little Falls on Sunday with the Generals scoring 33 runs in the 12 innings it took to secure their second sweep in two days. Frank Wayman (Horseheads, NY) made his only hit count with a grand slam and Dakota Britt (Rockwell, Texas) added 3 hits, that included a home run, while scoring 4 runs from the leadoff spot in the lineup. Kyle Caccamise continued his hot streak at the plate, collecting 3 more hits and scoring 4 runs. Kyle Taborne (Vestal, NY) throw 4 solid innings and struck out 6 to get the win.

Game 4 of the weekend set saw Herkimer take a 4-1 lead into the 6th before exploding for 10 runs to end the game and close out the series. Dakota Britt, Anthony Raimo, Jr, Frank Wayman, and Yuzuki Okamura all hit home runs for the Generals, with Okamura's being a grand slam in the 10 run 6th inning. Kyle Caccamise finished off his 8 for 10 weekend at the plate with 2 more hits. Brandon Breakell (Loudonville, NY) scattered 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5 in his 5 innings of work. David Montalvo (Bethlehem, NY) took over in the 6th, turning in an impressive inning or work by striking out the side on 11 pitches.

Next up for the Generals, who have moved up to # 5 in today's NJCAA Division III Poll, is a visit from the Tompkins-Cortland Panthers on Tuesday afternoon, April 20th as Head Coach Jason Rathbun will look to get one more win to secure 500 in his coaching career at Herkimer. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Vets Park.
