Herkimer puts up 24 runs in doubleheader sweep of Mohawk Valley

Little Falls, NY - 12 was the magic number in Herkimer's sweep of Mohawk Valley on Saturday afternoon at Vets Park in Little Falls, NY.

The Generals offense generated 12 hits and 12 runs in each game to break open close contests and pull away from the Hawks by scores of 12-4 and 12-5. The wins improve Herkimer's record to 7-1 on the season.

In the opener, the Generals tallied 4 runs each in the 4th and 5th innings after the Hawks scored 2 runs in the top of the 4th to tie it at 3. Catcher Yuzuki Okamura (Shiga, Japan) and Kyle Caccamise (Hopewell Junction, NY) each went 3-3 and combined for 5 RBI's. Devin Disonell (Clifton Park, NY) and Amthony Raimo, Jr (Altamont, NY) each went 2-3 with Raimo driving in 3 runs.

Trey Princiotto (Horseheads, NY) got the win on the mound for the Generals, going 5 innings and striking out 5 MVCC batters. Jake Hernandez (Guilderland, NY) and Ryley O'Connell (Peru, NY) closed out the game for Herkimer, each pitching one inning and striking out 2 apiece.

Game 2 saw the Generals take a 5-1 lead before the Hawks once again used a big 4th inning and tied the game at 5. And once again, the Generals offense took over, scoring 7 runs over the last 3 frames to secure the win. Dakota Britt (Rockwell, Texas) was the spark plug at the top of the Generals lineup, going 3-3 and scoring 4 runs. Matt Tobin (Newport, NY) also went 3 -3 and drove in 3 runs. Trey Miller (Rocky Point, NY) went 2 -4 and drove in 2.

Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY) went 4 innings and struck out 7 in earning the win for Herkimer. David Montalvo (Bethlehem, NY) came on and was lights out for the last 3 innings for the Generals, allowing no runs or hits and striking out 3 while walking none.

The Generals, now ranked #6 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll, will travel to Murnane Field in Utica on Tuesday, April 6th for the rematch with the Hawks on their home field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
