Herkimer, NY - After bad field conditions wiped their scheduled doubleheader with Jefferson in Watertown on Saturday, the Herkimer Generals hosted the Cannoneers on Sunday morning and swept the doubleheader by scores of 12-2 and 12-0. The sweep gives the Generals, ranked #8 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll, a record of 16-3 overall and 7-1 in the Eastern Division of Region III.
After a heartbreaking loss to Cayuga on Thursday afternoon, Herkimer bounced back in a big way in Game 1 against JCC, scoring 5 in the 2nd inning and 4 in the third to break the game wide open. Matt Parkinson (Whitesboro, NY) and Matt Tobin (Poland, NY) each went 2-2 on the day while Joe Novenche (Clifton Park, NY) and Vito Castronovo (Utica, NY) each went 2-3 in Game 1 with Novenche knocking in 3 runs. Tyler McDonnell (Yorktown Heights, NY) got the win on the mound for Herkimer, going 5 innings while only allowing one earned run on one hit while striking out 7.
