Norman Clayton, October Athlete of the Month

Herkimer Generals cross country runner Norman Clayton was named Green & Gold Male Athlete of the Month for October. Clayton, a Business: Sports & Recreation major at Herkimer College, ran his way to a third team All-American and All-Region selection to end his season.

Clayton - who is from Bronx, NY – kept a solid 6:14 pace at Finger Lakes Community College which helped the freshman to a ninth place finish. He outdid that pace at nationals, finishing Holyoke’s five-mile course in 28:40.3 which is a 5:45 pace. The lowest pace he had prior was at Hamilton’s five-mile course in October, finishing that course in 29:56.8 which was a 6:02 pace.

“Norman’s hard work throughout this season earned him All-Region and All-American honors,” said Head Cross Country Coach Stephen Sydoriw. “We are happy to break the streak of not having a male All-American the past couple seasons, and Norman was always a pleasure to have around.”
