Lugo-Mateo's Second Consecutive Hat Trick Propels Women's Soccer Over Jefferson

The Herkimer College women's soccer team secured a 4-1 victory over Jefferson Community College, improving their record to 2-1-1 on the season.

The game began with an early goal by Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo at just 1:16 into the match, assisted by Mia Lazzara, putting Herkimer up 1-0. Jefferson quickly responded with a penalty kick by Malena Stevenson at 10:46, leveling the score at 1-1.

However, Herkimer took control from there, as Lugo-Mateo netted two more goals, completing a hat trick. Her second goal came just before halftime at 44:41, assisted by Lazzara again, giving Herkimer a 2-1 lead. Lugo-Mateo's third goal, assisted by Siera Jacques at 51:21, extended the lead to 3-1.

In the closing moments of the game, Mia Lazzara capped the scoring with a goal at 82:21, assisted by Jacques, securing the 4-1 win for the Generals.


Herkimer's defense was strong throughout the game, allowing only one shot on goal in the second half. Goalkeeper Cassidy Will made one save while splitting time in net with McKenzie Raine.

Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo was the standout performer, with three goals and five shots on goal, while Mia Lazzara contributed one goal and two assists.

The Generals have a quick turnaround, playing SUNY ESF at Wehrum Stadium on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
