Generals Advance to Final Four; Coach Potter Earns 100th Career Win; Hill Sets Program RBI Record

The Herkimer Generals continued their dominant stretch on Saturday, sweeping Genesee Community College in a subregional playoff doubleheader at home. The wins pushed the Generals' winning streak to 22 games and marked a historic milestone for head coach Lane Potter, who secured his 100th and 101st career victories. Potter, now 101-23 in just his third season at the helm, added another impressive chapter to an already stellar coaching resume. In addition, freshman Marvin Hill set the single-season RBI record, with 67.

Game 1: Herkimer 7, Genesee 1

In the opener, Herkimer rode the arm of Brendan Rusnack and a late offensive surge to a 7-1 win.

Rusnack was brilliant on the mound, going the distance and striking out nine while allowing just one run on three hits in a nine inning, complete-game effort. The Generals held a narrow lead through six innings before blowing the game open with a four-run seventh.

Michael Schleider provided the big swing, launching a two-run homer to center field. Jaden Madrid was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Shiryu Sato drew a walk to force in another run. Herkimer had taken the lead earlier in the fourth inning when a Genesee error allowed the first run to score.

At the plate, Schleider led the way, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks. Herkimer collected 10 hits and showed strong plate discipline with seven walks. The defense remained sharp, turning a double play and playing error-free baseball.

Game 2: Herkimer 24, Genesee 1

The second game was all Herkimer from the start, as the Generals exploded for 24 runs on 18 hits in a commanding win that punched their ticket to the next round.

Shiryu Sato had a monster performance, driving in five runs with a three-run homer and a two-run double—both in the early innings. He also drew a bases-loaded walk for his sixth RBI contribution of the game.

The fireworks didn't stop there. Obiel Sanchez kicked things off with a solo homer in the second, Marvin Hill added a two-run shot in the third to break the program's single-season RBI record (67), and Dylan Wolfson and Zowen Collins each added homers of their own. Jacob Severson also went deep in the fourth as the Generals poured it on.

Evan Staroba earned the win on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run over five strong innings while striking out seven and walking none.

Hill and Wolfson each recorded three hits, while six different Generals turned in multi-hit performances. The defense once again didn't miss a beat, finishing the game error-free.

A Historic Day in Herkimer

With the doubleheader sweep, the Generals move on in postseason play, extend their winning streak to 22 games, and celebrate a pair of major milestones—Coach Potter's 100th career win, and Marvin Hill's new single-season RBI record. Herkimer is firing on all cylinders. The Generals await their seeding for the Region III Final Four, which will be hosted by Cayuga Community College on May 15th-17th.
