Herkimer outscores Schenectady 28-0 to earn doubleheader sweep

Schenectady, NY - After a rare 4 day break in the schedule, the Herkimer bats showed no signs of rust as the Generals scored 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Mountain Valley Conference foe Schenectady County Community College on Tuesday afternoon in Schenectady. The Generals, who have moved up to # 5 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll released on Tuesday, improved their record to 21-3-1 overall, 12-1-1 in the Region III Division III, and a 7-0-1 in conference play. 

Brandon Kruzinski (Schenectady, NY) was the catalyst in Game 1's 18-0 Herkimer win by going 4-5 with 4 RBI's from his leadoff spot in the order. Vito Castronovo (Utica, NY) had 2 hits, both triples, and scored 3 runs while Brian Forbes (Rocky Point, NY) and Benjamin Osborne (Westhampton Beach, NY) each collected 2 hits as well as the Generals used a 10 run 5th inning to put the game away against the Royals. Ryan Lanaro (Schenectady, NY) got the win for Herkimer, going 4 innings and striking out 7 while allowing only 2 hits. Matt Gonzales (Scotia, NY) struck out 2 ot the 3 batters he faced in his one inning of work.

Game 2 saw the Generals score in every inning to back up Masaki Furudono (Kagoshima, Japan) who continued his impressive string of performances on the mound, allowing only one hit over 4 innings of work. Yanni Orfanidis (Bayside, NY) pitched the last 2 innings for the Generals, striking out 1 and only allowing one hit as well. Frank Wayman (Horseheads, NY) provided the offensive spark, cracking 2 home runs and knocking in 5 for the Generals. Castronovo added 2 more extra base hits on his day, smacking a double and a triple from the leadoff spot in the order. Forbes also added 2 more hits, which included a home run and Stephen Centorani (Windsor, NY) added a solo shot of his own. 

The Generals and Royals will continue their four game set on Thursday afternoon as the games will shift to Herkimer's home field for a 2:00 start.
